Helldivers 2 Update Reactions Overwhelmingly Negative As Players Rip Latest Nerfs

Helldivers 2 players aren’t happy with the latest update.

Helldivers 2 is once again facing major backlash from players following the latest update, Patch 6.2.2 “Machinery of Oppression,” which launched alongside the new Exo Experts Warbond.

The update was supposed to be a big mech-focused drop. Arrowhead added two new biomes, a new enemy variant, a major Exo Suit rebalance, enemy rebalances, sidearm and Stratagem changes, and several fixes.

The Exo Experts Warbond also brings in new exosuits, including the EXO-51 Lumberer with an anti-tank cannon and flamethrower, and the EXO-55 Breakthrough with a flak cannon and ballistic shield.

However, the reaction online has been overwhelmingly negative.

Players say the mech buff feels like a nerf

A big part of the backlash centers on the patch and the Exo Suit changes.

Arrowhead says it increased the main Exo Suit health pool from 850 to 1600 and made the suits less likely to break from individual damaged zones.

The arms were also increased from 350 health to 600 and now have 50% explosion resistance. On paper, that sounds like a buff.

The problem is the same patch also increases durable damage from a long list of enemies.

Terminids, in particular, were buffed against vehicles, with Arrowhead saying they had “fallen behind” in their ability to damage vehicles.

Bile Spewers, Stalkers, Prowlers, Shriekers, Scavengers, Hunters, Warriors, Chargers, Hive Lords, Dragon Roaches, and Impalers all received durable damage changes or related buffs.

Revert this now.

That has led players to call the update a “nerf disguised as a buff.” The complaint is that Arrowhead made the mechs look tougher in the patch notes, while quietly making enemies hit them harder.

That is where a lot of the anger is coming from. Players wanted mechs to feel stronger. Instead, many say the update makes them feel weaker, especially when bugs can now tear through them faster than expected.

Bugs feel faster and more frustrating

After playing the update, the biggest thing that stands out is how fast the Terminids feel now.

The red mist from a Bile Titan is supposed to boost nearby bugs and make them faster, but in matches, the bugs appeared faster even without the red mist or gas effect. That made the entire game feel more chaotic and less fun, especially during close-range fights.

This also creates another issue with the new Warbond. One of the new armor perks is built around player speed, but if the bugs are faster across the board, the benefit feels wiped out.

It raises a fair question: what happens to players who do not buy the Warbond or do not have the new armor?

This is where Helldivers 2 starts to feel frustrating instead of challenging.

Players should be rewarded for skill and smart loadouts. They should not feel like the game is punishing them unless they buy into the newest gear.

The new mech is decent, but the flamethrower has problems

Regarding the new mech, it’s pretty decent.

The firepower feels okay, but problems show up in close combat (even though it’s promoted as “well-suited for close combat”). The Lumberer’s flamethrower does not feel like it works against bugs right in front of you.

At close range, the flamethrower should feel more like a laser-focused blast of fire. Instead, bugs can get inside the damage zone and keep attacking, and the flamethrower seems to have zero effect.

I would also actually prefer an autocannon with more rockets than the equipped anti-tank cannon with fewer.

Reddit and X light up with complaints

The backlash is not limited to one platform.

On X, reactions to the official Helldivers 2 post are filled with complaints about stealth nerfs, weak gear, bugs, crashes, and the overall direction of the game. Many players are saying Arrowhead keeps nerfing the fun out of the game.

Reddit is also lit up with negative posts and comments. Some players are complaining that the new Warbond feels weak. Others are pointing to crash problems, broken gameplay, Linux issues, and more frustration with the balance direction.

The main complaint is the same one Helldivers 2 has been dealing with for months: players feel Arrowhead keeps adding new content while making the actual gameplay less fun.

Do the devs actually play the game?

Crashes are still a problem

Patch 6.2.2 does include several crash fixes. Arrowhead says it fixed a rare AI crash, a crash tied to underbarrel firing modes, and a rare crash while fighting enemies, mostly against the Illuminate. The patch also adds launch validation checks to help address issues caused by outdated drivers.

Despite that, players are reporting more crashes after the update (happened to me on PS5). That is a bad look for a patch that already has players upset over balance changes.

When a live-service game drops a new Warbond and players cannot even get stable matches, the conversation turns negative fast.

This follows Arrowhead promising better communication

The timing makes the backlash worse because it comes right after Johan Pilestedt addressed player concerns during a Reddit AMA.

Pilestedt, who previously served as Arrowhead CEO before moving into the chief creative officer role, acknowledged the criticism from players.

According to IGN’s report, Arrowhead said the criticism was “fair” but “painful to read,” and Pilestedt promised action and better communication.

A GamesRadar report also noted that Pilestedt promised “meaningful changes” and committed to bi-weekly updates about development plans and progress.

This makes this update feel like a step backward for many players.

Arrowhead just told the community it was listening. Then the next big update landed, and players immediately started accusing the studio of doing the same thing again.

What happened?

Helldivers 2 is still fun when everything clicks (it’s the only game I play). The gunplay is strong, the chaos can be hilarious, and new updates always have potential.

However, it seems that players no longer look at patch notes and assume good faith.

When Arrowhead says something is getting buffed, players now dig into the numbers and look for the catch. With Patch 6.2.2, they found one: the mechs got more health, but enemies got more durable damage (and they’re way faster).

That is why the update is getting blasted. It is not only about the new Warbond or the new mechs. It is about the pattern. Players feel the game keeps moving away from the power fantasy that made Helldivers 2 blow up in the first place.
