Who is Hagrid?
Hagrid, whose full name is Rubeus Hagrid, is a beloved character in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. He is the Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and later becomes the Care of Magical Creatures professor. Known for his towering size—being half-giant—and his warm heart, Hagrid is fiercely loyal to Dumbledore and becomes a close friend and protector to Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Despite his intimidating appearance, he has a deep love for magical creatures, often adopting dangerous beasts and defending their misunderstood natures. Hagrid plays a key role in introducing Harry to the wizarding world.
About the Harry Potter TV Series
The Harry Potter TV series is a new Max Original in development, created in partnership with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman, with Francesca Gardiner (Succession, His Dark Materials, Killing Eve) set as showrunner and executive producer. Acclaimed director Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones, The Last of Us) will also executive produce and direct multiple episodes.
The series promises to be a faithful, decade-long adaptation of the original Harry Potter books, staying true to the characters, storylines, and world fans have cherished for over 25 years. Featuring a new cast, the show will reintroduce Hogwarts and the Wizarding World to a new generation with greater depth and detail than ever before.
J.K. Rowling previously emphasized Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of her books, noting the unique opportunity long-form television presents for exploring the full scope of the story. The series will stream on Max globally alongside the classic films, which remain a central part of the franchise.
“Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long form television series,” said J.K. Rowling, at the time of the series announcement.
