Harry Potter Series Confirms Cast: John Lithgow, Paapa Essiedu, More

HBO’s Harry Potter series has officially locked in its main cast, confirming four actors previously reported to be a part of the series, in addition to two new ones.

Who stars?

John Lithgow will take on the role of Albus Dumbledore, with Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape. Janet McTeer is set to play Professor McGonagall, with Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

Joining them are Luke Thallon, appearing as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, in recurring roles.

Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, both executive producers, shared their thoughts:

The original, classic, and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch around the world.”

Production Details

The upcoming series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner. Mark Mylod will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of the series for HBO in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The series is executive produced by J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
