A new report claims HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series may take a different direction with one of its most iconic characters.
Scooper Daniel Richtman (Daniel RPK) has said that auditions for Lord Voldemort are open to both men and women, meaning the Dark Lord could potentially be portrayed by a female actor.
A Different Take on Voldemort
Traditionally played by Ralph Fiennes in the Warner Bros. films, Voldemort has long been depicted as a male character. If the HBO series moves forward with a female actor, it would mark a significant departure from the original portrayal and likely spark debate among fans.
Casting still appears to be in early stages and no decision has been finalized as nothing official has been announced.
The news follows the controversial casting of Paapa Essiedu as Professor Severus Snape.

The Series So Far
HBO’s Harry Potter series is set to premiere in 2027.
The cast already includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, alongside a large ensemble of Hogwarts students, staff, and other key figures from the story. Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Professor Flitwick.

Release Info
The series will stream on HBO and Max, including in upcoming international markets such as Germany, Italy, and the UK. It is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes. J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman are also serving as executive producers.
