Godzilla vs King Kong Set In Present Day

Godzilla vs King Kong Set In Present Day

Following the details that Godzilla vs. Kong Kong will be a massive monster brawl, but at the same time keeping fans emotionally invested, now director Adam Wingard offers the timeline of the movie.

While speaking with Slash Film about his new Netfix movie, Deathnote, Adam Wingard says Godzilla vs. King Kong is set in the present day.

Ours is more in continuity with the sequel to Godzilla right now. They’re doing Godzilla 2 with Mike Dougherty directing, so our film is in present day.

Adam Wingard also confirms that Godzilla: King of the Monsters will directly tie into his Godzilla vs. King Kong movie.

We have a couple characters from Godzilla 2 in ours.

This past March saw the release of Kong: Skull Island, with that version of King Kong being the ape that battles Godzilla. Wingard offered his thoughts on Kong in the present day:

It’ll be interesting to see how Kong has fared over the years. You see him in that film and he’s just constantly under attack. Things are going wrong and there’s probably been lots of human intervention since then. It’ll be interesting to see a more rugged, a bit more aged Kong in this film.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits March 22, 2019, with Godzilla vs. Kong opening May 22, 2020.
