Congratulations to Toho, Godzilla Minus One, director Takashi Yamazaki, the special effects team behind the movie and everyone involved, as the film has won the Best Visual Effects Oscar at the 96th Academy Awards that was held on Sunday night.
Godzilla Minus One at a budget of less than $15 million managed to stomp out Hollywood heavyweights with budgets of more than 20x including Marvelās Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Paramountās Mission: Impossible ā Dead Reckoning Part One, Apple and Ridley Scottās Napoleon, and what I thought might have won, Gareth Edwardsā The Creator.

Director Takashi Yamazaki also showed up at the Oscars with a golden Godzilla statue and paid tribute to the late Godzilla Minus One producer Shuji Abe. Find the full list of winners here including Robert Downey Jr.
āI think Godzilla has opened up so many doors for us through this project so I donāt know where those doors are going to lead but I donāt want to turn down any opportunity that comes our way,ā said Yamazaki after winning the Oscar.
