Peacock is developing a live-action Fast & Furious TV series, with Vin Diesel executive producing.
NBCUniversal confirmed the project Monday during its upfront presentation, where Diesel appeared on stage and said the franchise is finally moving into television.
According to Deadline, Diesel also claimed Peacock is launching four shows set in the Fast & Furious universe.
“Peacock is launching four shows in the Fast and the Furious universe,” Diesel said.
Vin Diesel Executive Producing
Diesel will executive produce the Fast & Furious TV series through One Race alongside Sam Vincent.
Fast & Furious franchise producer Neal Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film are also executive producing, along with Chris Morgan and Jeff Kirschenbaum.
Morgan is no stranger to the franchise, having written several of the Fast & Furious movies.
Who Is Writing The Pilot?
The pilot will be written by Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman.
Daniels recently landed an NBC series order for his take on The Rockford Files, another title from the NBCUniversal library.
Daniels and Coleman previously worked together on the NBC series Shades of Blue.
No plot details have been revealed for the Fast & Furious series.
Diesel Says Fans Wanted More
Diesel said on stage that he has been protective of the Fast & Furious brand, even saying he originally turned down doing a sequel to the first movie.
“As you all know, we are very precious about these movies but over the last decade, we’ve realized that the fans have wanted more, they wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories,” Diesel said. “And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space.”
Donna Langley Helped Change Diesel’s Mind
Diesel said he came around on the idea after Universal Studios chief Donna Langley also took oversight of NBCUniversal’s TV operation last year.
“That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, what makes us all feel like family will be protected in the TV space,” Diesel said.
That suggests the Peacock projects could focus on expanding legacy characters and side stories rather than simply remaking the movies for TV.
Fast & Furious Marks 25th Anniversary
The Fast & Furious franchise is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The original film will receive a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival, with Diesel and Moritz expected to attend.
Across 11 films to date, the franchise has earned more than $7 billion at the worldwide box office.
Fast Forever Ends The Movie Saga
The final Fast & Furious movie, Fast Forever, is set to be released March 17, 2028.
With Peacock now developing a live-action TV series, NBCUniversal is making it clear the franchise won’t be parked after the movie saga wraps.
