Is Doctor Doom In Fantastic Four? Director Responds

Director Matt Shakman clears the air and responds to whether or not Doctor Doom is in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Last summer at Comic-Con saw the big news that Robert Downey Jr. will be playing Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Since Doom is a big part of the FF comics, it would make sense for Robert Downey Jr. to appear as the character in the film.

What did Matt Shakman say?

Speaking with Empire Magazine, director Matt Shakman actually answered whether or not Doctor Doom is in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

He told the outlet:  “Doom is not a part of my film, and therefore not a part of my purview.”

Shakman may have spoken up to shut down the growing rumors before they got fans’ hopes up any further.

What do the rumors say?

Rumors have offered that Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom might actually be from the same alternate universe as the Fantastic Four.

It’s also been claimed The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credit scene has leaked online and features none other than Doom.

However, worth pointing out is that per above, Shakman says “not a part of my film” and “not a part of my purview.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credit scene could be similar to what happened with the Thunderbolts “New Avengers” post-credit scene in that they were both shot by the Russo brothers on the set of Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel has also already confirmed the FF cast for Avengers: Doomsday and teased a connection to Thunderbolts, so Doctor Doom appearing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credit scene wouldn’t be such a surprise.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps gets released July 25. Tickets on sale tomorrow.
