Is the hierarchy of power about to change at Disney?!
On Thursday, it was announced that Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks production company have signed a first-look deal with Disney to develop theatrical and streaming projects.
In a first-look deal, the studio gets the exclusive right to review and potentially purchase the content created by the production company or producer before it is shopped to other buyers.
According to Variety, Johnson’s first-look deal with Disney also includes that the projects will be possible vehicles for Johnson to star in and, says that interestingly, the deal is not strictly limited to filmed content (note: Johnson owns his own Tequila brand).
Variety also says it’s a multi-year-deal that will also given Seven Bucks a chance to collaborate across all Disney divisions.
Dwayne Johnson confirmed the news on Saturday and commented.
“Appreciate all the well wishes and virtual high fives from this crazy @disney announcement. THANK YOU FAM,” The Rock posted on social media. “We’re gonna work hard, push the creative, expand, grow our brands and collaborate across Disney divisions and most importantly – serve and entertain my #1 boss – the people.”
Johnson continued, “And now I’m officially one step closer to INSANELY DELICIOUS @Teremana infused @Disney Dole Whip frozen drinks, that us adults will enjoy while we walk around @disneyparks for hours thinking that all our steps will also count as cardio.”
Dwayne Johnson has had a long relationship with Disney including 2009’s Race To Witch Mountain, voicing Maui in 2016’s Moana, returning as Maui in Moana 2 and playing the live-action version of the character, Johnson starred in Jungle Cruise and is returning for the sequel, and is featured in Disney’s two seasons of Behind the Attraction for Disney+. The Rock also owns the UFL football league which Disney’s ESPN is a broadcast partner.
On a side note, what is also interesting is that Dwayne Johnson recently came out against the woke culture and even regretted endorsing Joe Biden. Disney is woke as it comes.
Worth a mention is that Marvel is also at Disney. Rumors for a while have said The Rock is coming to the MCU.
