The opening for Doctor Strange kept in line with estimates as Marvel’s first supernatural movie brought in $84.9 million for its U.S. opening.
While Doctor Strange started out ahead of Thor: The Dark World this weekend, by the time Sunday came around, Doctor Strange fell just short of Thor 2’s opening of $85.7 million. Obviously that’s no cause for concern as Doctor Strange also beat out the likes of Captain America: The First Avenger, Ant-Man, Thor and Incredible Hulk to give Doctor Strange the second best opening for a Marvel origin/single character film (trails Iron Man‘s $98.6 million).
To date, Doctor Strange has brought in a worldwide gross of $325,389,000, with a current international haul of $240,400,000.
Rotten Tomatoes has Doctor Strange listed with a 90% favorable response from critics and 91% from fans.
