‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Ticket Sales Selling 50% Less Than ‘Spider-Man’

Thanks to AMC and THR, we get further insights into first-day ticket sales.

When it comes to the Multiverse, Spider-Man reigns supreme.

Exactly as I told you yesterday, Deadpool & Wolverine is not a Spider-Man or Avengers-level movie, at least not yet, as it has become known that first-day ticket sales are 50% less than Spidey.

We get further insights into ticket sales thanks to a report from THR about how AMC released data showing Deadpool & Wolverine is AMC’s top first-day ticket seller for an R-rated movie with 200,000 tickets sold.

Deadpool & Wolverine first day ticket sales around $8-9M

THR says that while “neither Fandango nor AMC provided dollar figures, insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter that first day sales are likely around $8 million to $9 million if extrapolating the 200,000 stat cited by [AMC].”

So with Deadpool & Wolverine selling around $8-9 million in first-day ticket sales, thanks to an official press release from Fandango last year, we know its selling significantly less than Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home ticket sales at $16.9 million

Last year saw Taylor Swift crush all the ticket sales records where Fandango announced Swifties bought $26 million in ticket sales on the first day. The announcement also mentioned how Taylor Swift beat out the previous record holder, 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home with $16.9 million.

So there’s the evidence that Deadpool & Wolverine, at least for first-day sales, doesn’t come anywhere close to Spider-Man, The Avengers: Endgame, etc. and is close to selling 50% less.

Disney pulling a Pinocchio

You will also notice in all the recent “announcements” about Deadpool & Wolverine ticket sales, it’s only pointed out ticket sales are the best of 2024, best of the Deadpool franchise, etc., which isn’t really saying much IMO, as Deadpool & Wolverine is supposed to be this huge Marvel Multiverse movie (just like No Way Home) and is the only MCU film getting released this year.

Also recall how Disney had to pull a Pinocchio and stretch the truth about the Deadpool & Wolverine Super Bowl trailer by including EVERYONE that tuned into watch the Super Bowl as part of the “record-breaking” trailer views, which was said to beat Spider-Man but really didn’t (we’re supposed to believe it beat Spidey but is selling half as much in tickets?!).

A big bust?

And again, I’m not saying Deadpool & Wolverine is a big bust, but, IMO, out of the gate things are pretty slow.

THR also adds no one is officially saying Deadpool & Wolverine will open to $100 million, something that hasn’t been done in 2024, amid a year that is already down 20% in sales from 2023. I think it would be a disaster if the flick doesn’t open to $100M (No Way Home opened to $260M).

Deadpool & Wolverine opens July 26 directed by Shawn Levy starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.
