‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Script Reveals Joke Disney Rejected

Deadpool & Wolverine Reveals Joke Disney Rejected

Deadpool & Wolverine features lots of “tasteful” jokes but one joke went too far and was rejected by Disney.

Recall how during the movie, Deadpool said they weren’t allowed to joke and use a certain word, which was joked to be cocaine, as Deadpool went through a list of alternate names.

However, now it’s learned with the release of the Deadpool & Wolverine script, which joke was specifically not approved and deleted from the movie.

Of course, it’s a joke about Disney and Mickey Mouse.

What is the Deadpool & Wolverine joke?

The joke looks to take place about an hour into the movie. Typically, one page of a screenplay equates to one minute of footage, so the joke is on pages 58 and 59.

The joke happens between a discussion with Deadpool and “Billy.” So what the Deadpool & Wolverine script does, it hides the surprise cameo characters using the characters from Stranger Things, of which director Shawn Levy is a writer and producer.

Billy happens to be Wesley Snipes as Blade, so Deadpool is making the joke while taking to Blade:

Deadpool: There’s four? Wait, is it Magneto?? Dear sweet god in heaven let it be Magnet because with HIM–

Billy: He’s dead.

Deadpool: “FUCK! What, we can’t even afford one more X-Man? Disney is so cheap. I can barely breathe with all this Mickey Mouse cock in my throat.”

What did Ryan Reynolds say about the deleted joke?

Back in August, while talking with Collider, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy discussed the joke they were not allowed to use.

“There was a note about this one line, and I’ll say this, which is that I was asked to take the line out. I was not even mandated to take the line out. To quote someone in a very high position of leadership at Disney, ‘I’m in for a penny, I’m in for a pound. And if you take it out, I’d love it. If you don’t, I will still love and support you, this movie and all the hard work that went into it,’” explained Reynolds. “So, come on. At that point you go, ‘Do I want to stick with pride? Do I care? Am I going to die on a hill over one joke?’ Look, the answer is of course I’m going to die on a hill over one joke, but then you sober up a few weeks later.”

“Many weeks later,” Levy added. “My buddy Ryan is one stubborn son of a bitch. It took weeks for the ground to soften, and we’re going to take that joke to the grave.”

So what joke was used instead of the above Mickey Mouse joke? Reynolds then revealed it was the Pinocchio joke.

“The intelligence and merit of the joke is certainly debatable, but it’s the Pinocchio joke. You know? ‘I got Pinocchio jammed in my ass, and he’s lying like crazy’ … That replaced what was there before, and I’m not losing any sleep over it…” explained Reynolds. “When they ask that one thing, and they’ve just been partners at that level, which is rare in this business and people who put their faith and trust in us to not only make a movie responsibly and finish on time and on budget and get a day and a half of reshoots – which we’re both super proud of. For any movie that’s extraordinary, but particularly a comic book movie, you got to take that stuff to heart, and you got to be a good partner. And we want to be good partners always.”
