Andy Muschietti is going back to Derry, and DC fans are again asking where James Gunn’s Batman movie stands.
The director attached to The Brave and the Bold is now working on It: Welcome to Derry Season 2, which has sparked new discussion online about the status of the DCU’s Batman. On Reddit, fans picked up on the news and argued the project still looks far away.
The concern is easy to understand.
The Brave and the Bold was announced as the DCU’s Batman movie, with Muschietti attached to direct. But there has been no casting, no production date, no release date, and no real update from James Gunn or DC Studios.
Looks like Brave and the Bold is still far away

Andy Muschietti Is Back On Welcome To Derry
Deadline’s new interview with Muschietti has fans talking because the filmmaker is now focused on It: Welcome to Derry Season 2.
The new season is set in 1935 and continues the Pennywise mythology connected to Stephen King’s It. That means Muschietti has another major Warner Bros. project in front of him while The Brave and the Bold remains stuck in the waiting room.
Muschietti may still be attached to Batman. But his Welcome to Derry work makes the obvious question louder: If DCU Batman is a major priority, why is its director moving deeper into another franchise first?

Brave And The Bold Still Has No Clear Timeline
James Gunn has said The Brave and the Bold depends on the script being ready. He also said he does not want to “cloud the Batsphere” while Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is moving forward, and that he does not want two Batman movies coming out in the same year.
Gunn’s own comments put The Brave and the Bold behind Reeves’ Batman movie, meaning the DCU Batman film is likely still years away.
So fans saying the DCU Batman is far away are not reaching. Based on Gunn’s own comments, The Brave and the Bold is not racing toward production.

The Warner Bros. Sale Adds Another Layer
The timing also lines up with the bigger Warner Bros. Discovery situation.
WBD shareholders recently backed the proposed $110 billion merger with Paramount Skydance, after Paramount won a months-long bidding war with Netflix.
The sale matters because new ownership could take a fresh look at DC Studios and its current slate.
If Paramount takes control of Warner Bros. Discovery, everything at DC could be reviewed, including the future of Gunn and Peter Safran’s slate.

Gunn’s Contract Also Raises Questions
Gunn and Safran’s DC Studios deals were reportedly extended from October 2026 to Spring 2027, according Bloomberg.
The date is important because it lines up closely with Man of Tomorrow, Gunn’s Superman follow-up.
So if Gunn’s contract only runs into Spring 2027, and The Brave and the Bold is not expected until after The Batman Part II, then the DCU Batman movie may not even be in production before Gunn’s current deal expires.
Fans have reason to question how locked in this Batman really is.

Gunn Has Been Selling His Batman Hard
Gunn has tried to calm fans by saying Batman remains important to the DCU. He has also said that if DC is going to make a Batman movie, it “better be f—ing awesome.”
But the more Gunn talks about how important Batman is, the more some fans question why there is so little actual movement.
A studio head with a locked, fast-moving Batman movie usually does not need to keep selling people on the idea. The movie sells itself once there is a script, a star, a production date, or a release plan.
Right now, The Brave and the Bold has none of that.

Could Gunn’s Batman Be In Trouble?
Muschietti is working on Welcome to Derry Season 2. Reeves’ The Batman Part II remains ahead of the DCU Batman.
Gunn has said both Batman movies will not arrive in the same year. WBD is in the middle of a major sale process. Gunn and Safran’s current deal reportedly runs only into Spring 2027.
While that does not mean Gunn’s Batman is dead, it means the movie looks like one of the biggest question marks in the DCU.
For now, fans waiting on a DCU Batman casting announcement may be waiting a while.
