DC Relaunch: Dan DiDio on why no JSA

Update:: Is this why no JSA? Johns says first Justice League arc will be origin.

The DC Relaunch that sees 52 titles begin anew was finally completed with the earlier announcement of the Superman titles.

Many fans have been questionong the fate of certain books such as Booster Gold, Secret Six and the JSA.

Co-Publisher Dan DiDio explained on his facebook the thinking behind why a new Justice Society of America wasn’t relaunched.

“AS for JSA, we have decided to rest this concept while we devote our attention on the launch of the three new Justice League series. As for other characters and series not part of the initial 52, there are plenty of stories to be told, and we’re just getting started. best, DD”

The three Justice League books being the new Justice League #1 from Geoff Johns and Jim Lee, Justice League International from Dan Jurgens and Aaron Lopretsi, and Justice League Dark from Peter Milligan and Mikel Janin.

Reading through the fan comments, it was obvious there would be some disappointment; however, as DiDio noted, that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing the characters (Hawkman, Mister Terrific get their own books).

Still, not having a JSA book around just seems kinda wrong. No?

As FB poster Paul Azzopardi puts it, “JSA should have been part of this launch. Sorry but just my opinion. They are the reason we have a JLA, Dan. To rest the concept is wrong. whilst I will still wait in anticipation for JLA and JLA, i beleive DC not giving the readers JSA is just wrong. gardner Fox created the team and then launched JLA from that. There is a place for them. I hope someone in their infinte wisdom realizes this sooner rather than later.”
