[[wysiwyg_imageupload:6882:]]Last night saw the premiere of David Goyer‘s new TV series on Starz, Da Vinci’s Demons.
CBN‘s own Lawrence Napoli reviewed the show and likened it to Tony Stark and Assassin’s Creed.
Lawrence brought up a good point, and one that I agree with, and that’s: that it would have been beneficial to get a little more backstory on Da Vinci for those not in the know.
Obviously, hitting up Wiki helps a lot, but one shouldn’t really have to do research to “get” a show.
At least in my opinion.
Speaking of, I enjoyed the show, and for me, I equated it with Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock, even a little Interview With The Vampire. There was a definite Batman vibe, but like Lawrence mentioned, more so of Tony Stark. Of course, the Dan Brown Da Vinci Code movies as well.
Probably worth a mention that Leonardo Da Vinci preceded all those characters aforementioned, so maybe they all are a take on him?
I’m also glad that Goyer included – right off the bat – Da Vinci’s secret society associations. Da Vinci has long been thought to be a high-ranking member of the Illuminati, Priori de Sion etc. (all the same).
We see he is initiated into the secret society by the Turk, played by Alexander Siddig, and we also see the Vatican vs. the Illuminati power angle that actually played out (and some say does to this day).
All in all I thought it was a good start and am curious to see how the series progresses.
With that, here’s a preview for the next episode “The Serpent.”
Da Vinci’s Demons airs Fridays at 10pm ET on Starz.
