A couple of days ago saw it learned that James Gunn had a sit down meeting with Disney, but that it didn’t change the mind of Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn, which means Gunn will not be back for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 or with Marvel Studios.
The report also made mention that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige supports the decision.
Now Drax-actor Dave Bautista has once again taken to social media to vet his frustrations.
“Thanks Disney!! Making America great again,” Dave Bautista tweeted, which is a reference to the President Trump slogan.
James Gunn was fired following tweets that resurfaced from ten years ago joking about rape and pedophilia. The tweets resurfaced as a result of James Gunn’s pro-left tweets, which saw pro-right bloggers and sites dig up the tweets in retaliation.
Dave Bautista
Dave Bautista also previously threatened to quit Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 over the matter.
“Nobody’s defending his tweets, but this was a smear campaign on a good man,” Dave Bautista said in a previous interview. “I spoke to Chris Pratt the day after it happened and he’s a bit religious so he wanted time to pray and figure it out, but I was more like: f-ck this. This is bullsh-t. James is one of the kindest, most decent people I’ve met. Where I’m at right now is that if [Marvel] don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me. I’d be doing James a disservice if I didn’t.”
It has been said Disney does plan on using James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, but it is currently thought if a new director comes onboard, the script will get tweaked to accommodate the new director’s vision.
Dave Bautista also previously blasted “cyber nazis” for the dismissal of Gunn.
“I will do what I’m legally obligated to do but Guardians without James Gunn is not what I signed up for. GOTG w/o James Gunn just isn’t GOTG. Its also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis . That’s just how I feel,” Bautista tweeted.
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is supposed to start filming February 2019, but it may get delayed while Disney searches for a new director.
James Gunn
Following getting fired from Disney, James Gunn issued the following apology:
“My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative. I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don’t reflect the person I am today or have been for some time.”
“Regardless of how much time has passed, I understand and accept the business decisions taken today. Even these many years later, I take full responsibility for the way I conducted myself then. All I can do now, beyond offering my sincere and heartfelt regret, is to be the best human being I can be: accepting, understanding, committed to equality, and far more thoughtful about my public statements and my obligations to our public discourse. To everyone inside my industry and beyond, I again offer my deepest apologies. Love to all.”
