Chris Pine, Timothy Olyphant Now Rumored For James Gunn’s Green Lantern

Chris Pine and Timothy Olyphant are now rumored to be up next to play Green Lantern Hal Jordan for James Gunn’s DCU Lanterns TV series.

The rumors follow the recent report that Josh Brolin passed on the role, with it said Matthew McConaughey and other A-list actors appear to be just rumors. Ewan McGregor was also said to be on that list, so it looks like he is out.

The latest rumors come via Apocalyptic Horseman on X.

“SCOOP: Although McConaughey is on the short list, he’s not the next choice. It’s in fact Chris Pine. Also on the list is Timothy Olyphant,” states the X user.

A couple of other scoopers have also mentioned Chris Pine, a fan-favorite choice to play the character, who we all know already had a role in the DCEU as Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman movies. Chris Pine is also known for playing Captain Kirk in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek movies and recently starred in Dungeons & Dragons.

However, Chris Pine has never been a TV star. I also have a hard time believing Chris Pine will star in a low-budget TV series, which is what I am guessing Lanterns will be as it’s set on Earth. The previous Green Lantern series in development for HBO was going to be a huge space opera, but that all got thrown out by David Zaslav who I am told demanded that Gunn reboot the DC characters with cheaper talent. That doesn’t fit with Chris Pine, IMO.

Timothy Olyphant, on the other hand, is a TV star. He’s known for Justified, Deadwood, and Star Wars fans will recognize him from The Mandalorian. For what they are going with in Lanterns, I could see Olyphant in the role.

A name I threw out there is Armie Hammer.
