A suspect is in custody in the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, President Donald Trump confirmed Friday morning during an appearance on Fox & Friends.

Update: The suspect is named as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, a Utah local, via law enforcement officials confirming to the NY Post.
The Daily Mail also reported: “The alleged killer confessed to his father Matt, who is a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, sources told Daily Mail. His father then contacted authorities and secured his son before he could be taken into custody.”
- His mother, Amber Robinson, works for Intermountain Support Coordination Services, a state-contracted company that helps disabled people receive care.
- Robinson was a student at Utah State University on a scholarship, according to insiders who spoke to the Daily Mail.
- Social media posts show Robinson with two younger brothers, often on family vacations and sharing smiling selfies, including celebrations of his college acceptance.
- He was taken into custody around 11 p.m. Thursday in southern Utah.
- Robinson lives in a $600,000 six-bedroom home in Washington, Utah, about 260 miles south of Orem, where Charlie Kirk was assassinated.

Trump Confirms Arrest
Trump said there is a “high degree of certainty” that law enforcement has the shooter in custody. He credited the arrest to cooperation between local police, Utah officials, and federal authorities, explaining that “essentially, somebody very close to him turned him in.”
The president said the suspect was brought to a U.S. Marshal with the help of the suspect’s father and a minister. Trump added, “I hope he gets the death penalty. What he did – Charlie Kirk was the finest person.”

Investigation Update
Utah authorities have not yet released the name of the suspect, and the FBI has not provided official confirmation. However, video footage released Thursday night appeared to show a dark-clad figure fleeing from a rooftop near Utah Valley University after the fatal shot.
Investigators say they recovered a high-powered, bolt-action rifle in a wooded area near campus. Officials also confirmed finding palm prints, footprints, and other impressions believed to belong to the shooter.

What Happened To Charlie Kirk
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and one of the most visible conservative organizers in the country, was assassinated Wednesday while addressing thousands of students at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Kirk was answering a question about mass shootings when a single shot struck him in the neck. Video from the event showed him collapsing as students fled in panic. He was rushed to a hospital but later pronounced dead.
President Trump announced his death on Truth Social within hours of the shooting and later said he would award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
