A few weeks ago saw the Channing TatumĀ Gambit movie pulled from Fox Studiosā release schedule with the reason cited due to script rewrites.
Now while doing press for X-Men: Apocalypse, writer/producer Simon Kinberg confirms they are still working on the script and hopes Gambit will film by the end of this year or at the beginning of 2017.
Via Flicking Myth:
āWeāve got to get the script right. We just didnāt get the script to the placeĀ where we all thought the movie deserved. So weāre still working on the script. Weāre very close, actually, to being done with the script. And the hope is that Channing [Tatum] has a couple of movies he has to shoot, but that we would shoot at the end of this year, or the beginning of next year.ā
āItās looking really good. Iām not going to say anything about it content-wise. I think one of the things that Iāve learnt on all these movies ā and maybe the lesson was best learned for me onĀ DeadpoolĀ ā is the most important thing is getting the tone and the voice right. That the storytelling, the actual narrative, the plots are sort ofĀ interchangeable and disposable, ultimately.ā
āā¦weāve really tried to do withĀ GambitĀ is make sure that we get the voice of that character right and the tone of the comics 100% on the page. Itās a very unique tone. Itās unique fromĀ Deadpool, itās unique from theĀ X-Men. Itās a heist movie that weāve never done in these kindsĀ of films before. Heās a con-man. And so thatās really where weāve spent our time.ā
āThere was a moment when we were going to shoot the movie at the beginning of this year, and then we felt like it just wasnāt ready. Knowing, hoping, thatĀ GambitĀ is like whatĀ DeadpoolĀ was ā the start of a new franchise within theĀ X-MenĀ universe ā we want to make sure we get it right.ā
