‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Embarrassing For Marvel: Hasn’t Hit $200M

Captain America: Brave New World is turning out to be a complete embarrassment for Marvel and a massive bust at the box office. In its eighth weekend, the film has yet to hit $200 million domestically and has barely cracked $400 million.

Both the domestic and international fans haven’t shown up for Anthony Mackie as Captain America or Harrison Ford as Red Hulk. The message remains loud and clear.

Captain America: Brave New World Box Office Finally Passes $400M

Box office report

Captain America: Brave New World is currently at $199M after eight weeks. The foreign gross is also only at $213.7M and the worldwide gross is at $412.8M.

The film is presently the fourth worst-performing MCU movie only topping Eternals ($402M), Black Widow ($379.7M), and The Marvels ($206M).

Cap 4 Grosses:

  • Domestic (48.2%): $199,081,549
  • International (51.8%): $213,759,648
  • Worldwide: $412,841,197

What’s next for Captain America?

The Captain America: Brave New World box office has been compared to Quantumania, but looks to be coming nowhere close to Ant-Man‘s $476M. Recall following Quantumania‘s similar poor performance and reception that Marvel got rid of Kang the Conqueror. Will the big-time failure of Cap 4 have any repercussions as we go into Avengers: Doomsday?

Anthony Mackie has been confirmed to be a part of the cast. Chris Evans is also rumored. Fans don’t want Mackie as Captain America. He was fine as Falcon. Will Doomsday snap Mackie as Cap out of existence? Let’s hope so.

MCU on shaky ground

Recently also saw it learned that Daredevil: Born Again has catastrophic viewership on Disney+, similar to Agatha and Echo, the least-watched MCU shows on the streamer.

Aside from Spider-Man and Deadpool & Wolverine, nothing from the past six years worth of the MCU has been successful. Those properties are also legacy properties which means nothing Kevin Feige has introduced following Endgame has resonated with fans.

Up next is Thunderbolts in May which looks like a lot of fun. Tickets just went on sale and seem to be doing okay.

Marvel is banking big on Fantastic Four in July. It’s supposed to lead into Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, which are obviously hoped to be on the level of Endgame and Infinity War.
