Legendary actor Denzel Washington has accidentally confirmed his involvement in Black Panther 3, even though Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce the film and now he has apologizes for the incident.
Denzel Washington Confirms Role in Black Panther 3
While appearing on Variety’s Award Circuit Podcast, Washington apologized while sharing his admiration for Black Panther director Ryan Coogler:
“Ryan’s a genius…“I called him and apologized for talking about the movie, and right there sitting with him was his beautiful wife. He’s still Ryan, humble and full of ideas. Whatever he writes, I’ll read.””
Washington let the news slip during a recent TODAY interview while promoting Gladiator II:
“I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done. I played Othello at 22. I’m about to play Othello at 70. After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m going to do the film Othello. After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”
What We Know About Black Panther 3
Marvel Studios has not officially announced Black Panther 3, but Washington’s comments hint that Coogler is actively developing the script. The franchise’s next chapter would follow Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which introduced Shuri as the new Black Panther and explored Wakanda’s delicate political landscape.
Marvel recently announced three new release dates for 2028, sparking speculation that Black Panther 3 could be one of the planned projects.
What Role Could Denzel Washington Play?
While no details have been confirmed, fans are speculating about Washington’s role in the MCU. Possibilities include:
- A Wakandan elder or political leader helping Shuri navigate her responsibilities.
- A global rival or antagonist who challenges Wakanda’s position on the world stage.
- Norman Osborn (rumor offers Denzel will have a villain role)
- Blue Marvel
Since Washington has confirmed he has projects set after Black Panther 3 and then will retire, it seems unlikely the actor has signed on to a multi-picture Marvel deal. That also probably means he won’t be playing a big character like Norman Osborn or even the Blue Marvel.
