It’s learned The CW’s Batwoman has brought back the character of Kate Kane, not played by Ruby Rose, but a different actress with Wallis Day.

Apparently, Sunday’s episode answered the question of “what happened to the real Batwoman?” as Ruby Rose departed the series last season, with Javicia Leslie donning the cape and cowl as Ryan Wilder, a former drug addict who lives in a van and who talks to her plant.

Deadline points out that Javicia Leslie will still continue on as Batwoman, but that the second half of Batwoman Season 2 will explain where Kate Kane has been and what that means for her character going forward.

At the end of Sunday’s episode saw it discovered that Kate Kane is alive but unrecognizable due to injuries she sustained in the plane crash at the start of Season 2 and that Kate Kane is bandaged and being held, hostage.

So with Wallis Day now playing an “altered version” of Kate, we can guess that possibly the injuries from the crash caused her to undergo plastic surgery, which would explain Wallis Day in the role.

Wallis Day is known for playing Nyssa-Vex on the recent SYFY Krypton series, and is known for The Royals, Jekyll & Hyde, and stars in the upcoming Infinite that also stars Mark Wahlberg and Dylan O’Brien.

“Super excited to finally announce I’m joining the cast of Batwoman. I’m sure you can imagine how much this means to me and how incredible it’s been working on the show so far,” posted Day on Instagram. “It’s a huge responsibility stepping into the shoes of a character that’s already been established and it’s a journey I’m looking forward to being a part of and hoping you guys do too. Everyone’s made me feel so welcome and it’s amazing being back home with my DC family.”

Batwoman airs Sundays on The CW.
