The Batman director Matt Reeves is currently in early development on movies and/or series involving the Dark Knight’s rogue’s gallery.
In THR‘s report that also includes the news that Man of Steel 2 is in development starring Henry Cavill and that James Gunn has pitched a secret DC movie, it’s mentioned Matt Reeves is building out and expanding his own corner of the DC universe.
The details are said to include that Matt Reeves is meeting with writing and directors to build out movies – not just series – that focus on Batman’s rogue’s gallery with villains mentioned including Scarecrow, Clayface, and Professor Pyg.
It’s said all those projects are in the “very early stages of gestation,” and we can guess much like what Reeves did with both Penguin and the Riddler, the takes on those Batman villains would be on the more serious and realistic side of things.
Matt Reeves is also developing The Batman sequel and the Penguin series coming to HBO Max starring Colin Farrell.
It has also been reported an Arkham Asylum series is underway, but THR made no mention of that project.
The Batman made $770.8 million when it was released earlier this year.
Todd Phillips is also developing the Joker sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga which is separate and a part of its own universe.
On a side note, concept artist Jerad S. Marantz, who worked on Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, recently revealed concept art for a character thought to be Clayface from a canceled project:
