The Story of Knightfall

The first installment adapts the opening arc of the famous comic series, following Bane as he frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum. As Gotham descends into chaos, Batman faces his greatest physical and psychological challenge.

The official synopsis reads:

“When the mysterious behemoth known only as Bane frees Batman’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, the Caped Crusader is pushed to his mental and physical breaking point.”

The Team Behind the Film

The movie is directed by Jeff Wamester (Justice Society: World War II) and written by Jeremy Adams (Batman: Soul of the Dragon). Rick Morales serves as Supervising Producer, with Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau producing. Sam Register and longtime Batman producer Michael Uslan are Executive Producers.

The Legacy of the Comics

Batman: Knightfall was one of DC’s most defining stories of the 1990s, originally written by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, and Jo Duffy, with art from Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent. The storyline is best remembered for introducing Bane and depicting the infamous scene where he breaks Batman’s back — an event that shaped the Dark Knight’s mythology for decades.

Release Window

Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall is currently in production and set to release in 2026, marking the start of a new multi-part animated saga from DC and Warner Bros.
