Batman: Creature Commandos Gives Us Full Look, James Gunn Teases Superman Team Up

Thanks to the latest episode of Creature Commandos, we get a full look at the DCU Batman. James Gunn also explains the new Dark Knight and teases a team up with Superman David Corenswet.

A previous episode actually teased the death of Batman along with the Justice League, but that was a part of Circe’s vision. This episodes gives us the origin story for Doctor Phosphorus where it’s revealed that Phosphorus becomes a big crime boss. Well, who ends up taking down Phosphorus? Enter the Batman.

Saving Batman for live-action

James Gunn spoke with Rotten Tomatoes and revealed originally there was a lot more Batman but that pulled back on it:

“When they first gave it to me we saw a lot more Batman, and [laughs, big smile] I was saying, ‘I am not ready to commit to that. I’m not ready to commit to that. I’m not ready to commit to that.’ So I was just like ‘more silhouette, more silhouette, more silhouette.'”

No origin story

Similar to Gunn’s Superman, the DCU will be skipping Batman’s origin story:

“I think it’s it’s a it’s a great way to show that Batman does exist. He already exists in this universe just like when we come to the Superman movie we see that Superman already exists. He’s already known by the people in Metropolis. We don’t need to hear the origin story again.”

Batman is import to the DCU

Gunn also says the DCU Batman is important and makes a big impact:

“So yeah that’s just a way to introduce that Batman is a part of this universe. He’s important part of this universe, and he has an impact on it including defeating such pretty dangerous scary people like Phosphorus who’s pretty tough.”

Excited for the future

Gunn also confirms that eventually the DCU Batman and Superman will team up:

“This is the DCU Batman [laughs]. Listen I gotta tell you I just love Batman. I love him. I’ve loved him since I was a little kid. He’s one of my favorite characters. I’ve gone on record in the past when I was at Marvel saying my favorite character is Batman. I love him, you know, and we’re going to do great things with him. He’s the most popular superhero in the world, and I can’t wait to for people to see more of them, and along with the Superman, and together.”

New episodes of Creature Commandos air on Thursdays. Superman gets released on July 11th. Regarding the DCU Batman, recently saw Andy Muschietti reveal his Brave and the Bold has been postponed. It has also been rumored Gunn wants Robert Pattinson as the DCU Batman. The Batman: Part II also just saw a big delay as the release date has been pushed back to 2027.
