What is going on with The Batman 2? James Gunn sounds like he hasn’t heard much. A recent report has said nothing is close to being planned, and now Jeffrey Wright says he has no idea.
We can also add that Robert Pattinson has signed on for the new Christopher Nolan movie that films next year.
What did Jeffrey Wright say about The Batman Part II?
While speaking with Inverse how “there was no talk of my being in this first season” of The Penguin, Wright, who stars as Lt. James Gordon in the first Batman, says he doesn’t know what is going on with the sequel.
“I’m excited about getting back there, but you probably know as much as I know,” Wright said. “I haven’t read anything. I haven’t talked to Matt for a while. He’s been off doing his thing, I’ve been off doing mine. But I look forward to getting back there.”
As we recently went over, it seems as if everybody is waiting on Matt Reeves to finish The Batman: Part II script.
Reports and rumor say it will be set directly after the events of the first film and will take place during the winter. With the winter setting, some fans think that could mean the villain is Mr. Freeze, someone Reeves has previously said he is interested in tackling, however, in a much more grounded approach.
“In my view, I just feel drawn to finding the grounded version of everything. So to me it would be a challenge in an interesting way to try and figure out how that could happen, even the idea of something like Mr. Freeze, that such a great story, right? I think there’s actually a grounded version of that story, which could be really powerful and could be really great,” Reeves told Collider back in 2022.
He continued, “So, I love the fantastical side of Batman, but this iteration, obviously, while being, to me, I think it is very comics faithful, but I don’t think that this one is necessarily, it doesn’t lean as hard into the fantastical, I guess. But I think to me what would be interesting would be to try and unwind the fantastical and see, well, how could that make sense here? And so that’s kind of my view, how I see it.”
Though there is no script and it’s unknown when filming will start, The Batman Part II still has its October 2, 2026 release date and hasn’t been delayed (yet?).
