Zack Snyder confirms the existence of the DC Multiverse of films in relation to his Snyder Cut version of the Justice League, Batman vs. Superman, and Man of Steel.
While speaking with YouTuber Grace Randolph, Zack Snyder tackled the question of jow his Snyder Cut relates to the rest of the DCEU, as obviously it seems films like Matt Reeves’ The Batman more than likely won’t be related to his films.
“It’s a good question. We shot the movie in 2016. It will be five years old when it comes out for me. I’ve been living with it for that long,” said Snyder about his Justice League movie. “The DC Cinematic Universe has branched like a tree and blossomed on its own in amazing and great ways. I’m a producer on Wonder Woman 84. I’m super excited what Patty has done with that movie. It’s amazing, you know how I love that character. Gal is very close to me. That’s great. That’s amazing to me. You look at what Matt is doing with Batman… I’m super excited about that by the way. I think he is an amazing filmmaker and this is great. I think Robert is cool. I just think it’s great. I’m a fan, so I get excited.”
Regarding the notion of a DC Multiverse, which is something touched upon in the recent Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover on The CW, Zack Snyder offered one of the benefits of DC is the Multiverse, and Zack says that his movies are a part of their own continuity.
“For me where the movie falls, I believe it starts to represent its own path. It’s kind of separate now from where I would say the DC Cinematic Universe in continuity. I think it’s divergent in that way. I think that is a good thing,” said Snyder. “You know the power of DC and one of its cool strengths is the Multiverse concept.”
Zack also continued with mentioned that a strength working with DC is that the filmmakers come first.
“Where and also how they put filmmakers first and say, ‘You know what guys we want to hear your individual voices, these characters, and we want to do a run, so show us what you would do in sort of the great tradition of comic book writing and runs done with these great characters,'” explained Snyder. “So I think that is an amazing and cool sort of canvass.”
Getting back to the DC Multiverse and how it relates to his movies, Zack laughs that fans refer to it as the SnyderVerse.
“So for Justice League, and I heard someone say, ‘Oh, you are entering the SnyderVerse. Watch this.’ And frankly this notion of what you will see in Justice League and Batman vs Superman and Man of Steel, there’s continuity across those three movies… that’s my main focus, to satisfy that narrative structure,” said Snyder. “To continue that story, right. These characters will live long past what we do and they will go on other adventures, like who knows where space and time. For me, I am doing what I can at this time for these amazing actors and characters and situations in this scenario, and I am blessed to have these actors fill these shoes in this way that I think people really care about.”
Sounds like Snyder Cut will be a part of DC Multiverse
While not confirmed, there are rumors that Warner Bros. is cooking up a DC Multiverse involving its HBO Max streaming service as well as its big-screen DC movies.
It appears as if whatever Zack Snyder continues to do following the Snyder Cut will be released on HBO Max, possibly involving Ben Affleck back as Batman, with DC movies such as The Batman, James Gunn’s Suicide Squad, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, possibly J.J. Abrams on Superman and films involving Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Shazam, and The Flash released theatrically. It’s also rumored that Michael Keaton is returning as Batman.
Update: Zack Snyder confirms his Snyder Cut of Justice League is Elseworlds.
