The Batman: Jeffrey Wright Shows Off Bat Signal

Jeffrey Wright shows off the Bat Signal for The Batman as a response to director Matt Reeves revealing the first look at Robert Pattinson in the new Batsuit.

According to the official announcement from Warner Bros., Jeffrey Wright is playing “GCPD’s James Gordon,” but it’s unclear if he is playing the Commissioner or Detective version as IMDb lists Alex Ferns as playing Commissioner Pete Savage (WB’s announcement made no mention of Ferns).

The casting of Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon also confirms that this version of Batman is separate from the recent Ben Affleck Dark Knight from Zack Snyder for obvious reasons, as J.K. Simmons was Snyder’s choice to play Gordon in Justice League.

Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves also haven’t been clear where the Robert Pattinson The Batman fits into the continuity of things, if it’s its own thing similar to the Joaquin Phoenix Joker movie, if it will be a part of a new and separate DC Universe brand, or perhaps with the upcoming Flashpoint movie, the Robert Pattinson Batman will get soft rebooted as being a part of the DCEU along with Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as The Flash.

I’ve also been told by DC insiders that J.J. Abrams wants to tackle both Superman and Green Lantern and that they will be a part of the Robert Pattinson Batman universe (Abrams and Reeves are buds) as well as James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in a soft reboot of the DCEU. Regarding Henry Cavill, I’ve also been told that Abrams will recast and go with a younger version of Superman to fit with the Pattinson Batman.

While the first look at Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon hasn’t been released as of yet (expect a reveal when Wright is able to be seen publically), check out cool fan art below.

The Batman has a June 25, 2021 release directed by Matt Reeves starring Robert Pattinson (upcoming “Tenet,” “The Lighthouse,” “Good Time”) as Gotham City’s vigilante detective, Batman, and billionaire Bruce Wayne.

Starring alongside Pattinson as Gotham’s famous and infamous cast of characters are Zoë Kravitz (“Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” “Mad Max: Fury Road”) as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano (“Love & Mercy,” “12 Years a Slave”) as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright (the “Hunger Games” films) as the GCPD’s James Gordon; John Turturro (the “Transformers” films) as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard (“The Magnificent Seven,” “Black Mass”) as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson; Jayme Lawson (“Farewell Amor”) as mayoral candidate Bella Reál; with Andy Serkis (the “Planet of the Apes” films, “Black Panther”) as Alfred; and Colin Farrell (“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” “Dumbo”) as Oswald Cobblepot.
