Disney announced The Mandalorian Season 2 will premiere this October on Disney Plus.
CEO Bob Iger made the announcement as part of Disney’s quarterly investors call which saw Iger confirm Disney Plus currently has 26.5 million subscribers.
The series, created by Jon Favreau, follows Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian, a lone bounty hunter who comes across “The Child,” something fans have dubbed “Baby Yoda,” and instead of turning the creature over to the Empire, Mando takes The Child under his wing and protects him.
Iger even mentioned “a certain child” during the call, as Baby Yoda has taken the world by storm; toys are due to hit stores in May.
Baby Yoda is a fan-favorite
The show has featured Baby Yoda using powers of both the Light and the Dark Side, leading to fans questioning the origin of the little green guy as nothing is currently known, which fits with Star Wars canon, as George Lucas never revealed the origin details for Yoda.
The Mandalorian Season 2 has been filming which has seen Jon Favreau take to social media to reveal set images including one of “grandpa” George Lucas.

About The Mandalorian:
Episodes of The Mandalorian feature fan-favorite Kuiil, voiced by Nick Nolte, who is known for his signature line: “I have spoken”; the fan-favorite bounty hunter droid, IG-11, voiced by Taika Watiti; Gina Carano as badass Cara Dune; Carl Weathers as the slick Greef Karga; Agents of SHIELD‘s Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, who just might have a role in Season 2, and Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon who sports a black Darksaber lightsaber, which in Star Wars expanded universe canon was one of the Mandalorian culture’s most prized weapons and artifacts.
Here is the official description for the series:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The series depicts a lone bounty hunter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
