In his first interview following having officially been cast as The Batman, Robert Pattinson describes what is what like to try on the Batsuit for the first time, and he even mentions The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan.
Speaking with Variety, Pattinson says he was not worried about fan reaction but was furious about the leaks, and he says following the premiere of his latest movie, The Lighthouse, he flew back to Los Angeles to try on the Batstuit for the final round of the audition (which saw him beat out X-Men’s Nicholas Hoult):
“It’s maybe the craziest thing I’ve ever done in terms of movie stuff. I put it on. I remember saying to [director Matt Reeves], ‘It does feel quite transformative!’ He was like, ‘I would hope it does! You’re literally in the Batsuit.’”
Pattinson also said that Batman is his favorite character and finds the character interesting “because he doesn’t have any superpowers” and regarding that moment when wearing the Batsuit said:
“You do feel very powerful immediately. And it’s pretty astonishing, something that is incredibly difficult to get into, so the ritual of getting into it is pretty humiliating. You’ve got five people trying to shove you into something. Once you’ve got it on, it’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel strong, I feel tough, even though I had to have someone squeezing my butt cheeks into the legs.’”
Robert Pattinson spoke to Christopher Nolan about the Batman Batsuit
The article doesn’t go into detail which Batsuit Robert Pattinson may have tried on, whether it was a new one or possibly the recent Ben Affleck version, but Pattinson does happen to be closer in body-style to fellow Batman English actor Christian Bale, so maybe Pattinson tried on the Dark Knight suit (Pattinson and Bale are around 6-foot tall, with Affleck around 6′ 4″).
Interestingly enough, there is a connection to The Dark Knight, as Robert Pattinson is starring in Christopher Nolan’s new movie, Tenet, and while on set had a chance to ask the Oscar-awarding winning director for advice.
“I was like, ‘What a coincidence this is happening. It’s absolutely crazy,'” Pattinson said. “I was talking about things to do with the Batsuit. How to get more movements in it.”
The Batman opens June 25, 2021.
