Following having won for Best Action Movie at the recent Critics Choice Awards, Paramount announces two more Mission: Impossible films are in the works with director Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise returning.

McQuarrie will be writing and directing the new Mission: Impossible movies that are filming back-to-back and confirmed the news on Twitter, “Missions: Accepted.”

Tom Cruise also confirmed release dates with “Summer 2021 and Summer 2022.”

The most recent movie, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, that also starred Henry Cavill, was a big hit at the box office bringing in near $800 million.

Variety reports Paramount is filming the two new flicks back-to-back to take advantage of the popularity caused by Fallout. The new movies are getting 2021 and 2022 release dates because Paramount and Tom Cruise have Top Gun 2 coming out in 2020.

THR further offers that McQuarrie turned down multiple offers from other studios, including Warner Bros. offering DC projects, but the director chose to take a breather and stay true to his friend and partner, Cruise.
