Star Wars: Starfighter will include Jedi and lightsaber combat, according to a new New York Times profile of director Shawn Levy.
Confirmed On Set
The article details a November visit to the set where Levy was directing a scene involving a lightsaber duel in the water.
The director shared that Tom Cruise had stopped by to observe and ended up helping shoot part of the scene with a digital camera, jokingly invited by Levy, but fully embraced by Cruise, who waded into a muddy pond to get the shot.
âLast week Steven Spielberg was here. And now Tom Cruise is wielding a camera, ruining his very nice shoes,â said Levy.
The article notes:
Cruise just wanted to watch, he told them, but Levy, setting up a scene involving a lightsaber duel in the water, suggested the star jump on one of the cameras. Heâd meant it as a joke. But there was Cruise, wading into the muddy pond, holding the camera like a pro.
âNow when you see the movie,â Levy said â itâs scheduled for 2027 â âyouâll know that part of it was shot by Tom. I mean, how cool is that?â
