Following it learned a course correction is in the works for Star Wars: Episode IX, Simon Pegg comes out and says he thinks the Disney films are missing its creator George Lucas.
Talking with The Adam Buxton Podcast, Simon Pegg, who played Unkar Plutt in The Force Awakens, offers he was obviously disappointed by what he saw in The Last Jedi with his comments.
“I must admit, watching the last Star War film [The Last Jedi], the overriding feeling I got when I came out was, ‘I miss George Lucas,'” Pegg said.
Many fans have pointed out similar thoughts, in that the Disney movies don’t feel like the original Star Wars.
“For all the complaining that I’d done about him in the prequels, there was something amazing about his imagination. I do feel like his voice is missing from the current ones,” Pegg said about Lucas.
George Lucas actually previously ripped into what J.J. Abrams did with The Force Awakens as well.
“They wanted to do a retro movie. I don’t like that. Every movie I work very hard to make them completely different, with different planets, with different spaceships, make it new,” Lucas told Charlie Rose back in 2015.
George Lucas continued with mention that Disney threw his ideas away, but admitted if he was still involved, he would probably just cause problems.
“They looked at the stories, and they said, ‘We want to make something for the fans’….They decided they didn’t want to use those stories, they decided they were going to do their own thing,” Lucas said. “They weren’t that keen to have me involved anyway – but if I get in there, I’m just going to cause trouble, because they’re not going to do what I want them to do. And I don’t have the control to do that anymore, and all I would do is muck everything up. And so I said, ‘Okay, I will go my way, and I’ll let them go their way.'”
Regarding George Lucas’ plans for Star Wars VII-IX, Mark Hamill let it be known that Luke survived through Episode IX and even trained Leia.
“I happen to know that George didn’t kill Luke until the end of [Episode] 9, after he trained Leia,” Mark Hamill revealed to IGN back in March. “Which is another thread that was never played upon [in The Last Jedi].”
While Simon Pegg and some fans might want George Lucas back on Star Wars, they should be careful what they ask for. George Lucas let it be known that his plans for Episodes VII-IX involved the cringy midichlorians from his prequels, which weren’t much better than Disney Star Wars.

The general consensus is that George Lucas works best when he is surrounded by people who can advise him and not simply let him do whatever he wants (prequels). So maybe having George Lucas on the new Disney Star Wars in some sort of advisory role would be beneficial? At least we can guess that Lucas would recommend using The Force, right? Disney has two Star Wars TV series in the works, none of them about The Force or the Jedi, and the Disney Star Wars movies are lacking in The Force as well.
