Charlie Hunnam was this close to joining the Dark Side of The Force as the actor reveals he was in contention to play Anakin Skywalker in the George Lucas Star Wars prequels.
While promoting the release of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, which Snyder actually first pitched as a Star Wars project years ago, Hunnam reveals he even met Lucas but the meeting didn’t go so well.
“I had forgotten that too, but yes, I did. I got to the point where I was meeting George Lucas, you know?” Hunnam revealed to Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t think he meets a lot of actors. I think it was probably, maybe, two to three actors they were considering. I don’t remember much about it.”
Hunnam added, “I just remember it being a very awkward meeting and walking out and thinking, ‘Well, I’m definitely not [getting the] role.’ And I was correct. Sometimes it’s about the vibes.”
What actors were up to play Anakin Skywalker?
As we all know, the role of Anakin Skywalker went to Hayden Christensen, who also recently returned in the Ahsoka series, but what about the other actors?
There were 13 actors up to play Anakin in addition to Hayden Christensen including Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Joshua Jackson, Topher Grace, the aforementioned Charlie Hunnam, Chris Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, Ryan Phillippe, James Van Der Beek, Devon Sawa, James Van Der Beek, Erik Von Detten, and Paul Walker.
Not interested in superheroes, either
Charlie Hunnam also recently tackled questions about playing Green Arrow and again said he’s not interested in superheroes.
“I never talked to Zack about it,” he said. “Honestly, I don’t remember who. It was some people in suits, who brought the idea to me and thought it would be terribly exciting for me to play Green Arrow and I did not share their enthusiasm.”
He added, “I don’t know who Green Arrow is so I don’t want to offend anyone. I looked at one picture and I was like, ‘I’m not sure green’s my color and I’m pretty sure spandex isn’t my material.’ Beyond that, I was like, one image, ‘Thanks, not interested.’”
