Zachary Levi Stoked For Shazam!; Wants Justice League

Zachary Levi attended this year’s recent New York Comic-Con where he spoke about the upcoming Shazam! movie with mention of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Justice League.

The video below features Zachary Levi speaking about the DCEU for over 12 minutes where he talks about the tone of the movie and how Shazam! is squarely set in the DCEU.

Regarding Justice League, Zachary Levi offers that when he was first testing for the role, which was around the release of Justice League, he was in Hollywood and saw all the signs and posters for the film. Levi says even prior to getting cast that he couldn’t help but think that he could be a part of the next Justice League and really wanted the Shazam role.

Levi says that since his character is really 14-years-old that he would be joking around with the Justice League characters a lot, such as arm wrestling with Superman, trying to race The Flash all the time, and trying to look cool in front of Wonder Woman.

For the Shazam! movie, Zachary Levi says while his character isn’t big into superheroes because he is on a journey to find his mother, his best friend Freddy is a huge fan of Batman and Superman, and that when Billy gets his Shazam powers, he goes to Freddy for advice who becomes his superhero coach.

Zachary Levi sounds real excited for the role. Check out the video for more which also sees him talk Marvel including the death of Fandral in Thor: Ragnarok and mention of the mutants and X-Men:

Shazam! Zachary Levi

Shazam! has an April 5, 2019 release starring Zachary Levi as the titular DC Super Hero; Asher Angel as Billy Batson; Mark Strong in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana; Jack Dylan Grazer as Billy’s best friend and ultimate superhero enthusiast, Freddy, part of the foster family that includes Mary, played by Grace Fulton; Darla, played by Faithe Herman; Eugene, played by Ian Chen, and Pedro, played by Jovan Armand. Cooper Andrews and Marta Milans play foster parents Victor and Rosa Vasquez, with Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
