While the kids appear to be having a lot of fun, and the recent teaser also seemed to foreshadow a lighter Stranger Things 3 season, executive producer and writer Shawn Levy recently let it be known the new season will be anything but lighter.
“So season 3 has a really healthy dose of poppy, bright levity and cultural fun. But I can only promise you that season 3 eventually goes places that are darker, and unquestionably more action-packed, than we’ve ever gone before,” Levy said in a recent interview. “It would be a mistake for anyone to think that season 3 is the summer of fun and lightness because it’s a whole lot more than that.”

Stranger Things 3
Netflix has yet to announce the Stranger Things 3 release date, but it is known to be delayed and returning in Summer 2019 in order to get things right.
“It’s a handcrafted show. The Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy have worked really hard, and they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so they really want to take the time to get it right,” Netflix’s VP of original content Cindy Holland said. “It’s going to be a fantastic season. It’s gonna be worth the wait.”
The series also stars David Harbour and Winona Ryder.
