A couple of weeks ago saw it announced that China’s Legendary Entertainment is developing a live-action Pokemon movie.

Now it’s learned the writer behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel movies, Nicole Perlman, will be co-writing Pokemon with Gravity Falls scribe Alex Hirsch.

Variety reports Universal Pictures will handle distribution of the live-action Pokemon film outside of Japan, and that Toho will distribute the movie in Japan (similar to how Godzilla is handled).

Previous details for the Pokemon movie include it will be based on Detective Pikachu, a new character in the Pokemon universe.

The Pokemon movie was green lit following the release of the super popular Pokemon Go App which enables users to find and capture Pokemon in real time and do battle and get upgrades.

Pokemon was created in 1995 and has sold 279 million video games worldwide with 21.5 billion cards shipped to 74 countries, and an animated series spanning 19 seasons.

The next Pokemon game comes out for the 3DS with Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon.
