This morning saw Disney announce they have purchased Fox Studios which includes the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool properties.
Logan director James Mangold echoed many fans and Ryan Reynolds’ worries that Disney might stop making R-rated Marvel movies.
The good news is that Disney CEO Bob Iger has stated Deadpool can remain R-rated.
“It [Deadpool] clearly has been and will be Marvel branded. But we think there might be an opportunity for a Marvel-R brand for something like Deadpool,” Iger said. “As long as we let the audiences know what’s coming, we think we can manage that fine.”
Ryan Reynolds also again took to Twitter to react to the Disney news, and the Deadpool official Facebook page released the following promo art: “Some might call this creation a masterpiece, but to me it’s just well hung art to be shared with the world.”
Deadpool 2 has a June 1, 2018 release directed by John Wick‘s David Leitch also starring Josh Brolin as the time travelling mutant Cable, Zazie Beetz as Domino, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapicic as the voice of Colossus with Shioli Kutsuna in a mystery role and Jack Kesy rumored as Black Tom Cassidy.
Deadpool 2 is written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick with Ryan Reynolds also on board as producer along with Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.
