Amazon MGM Studios and the official James Bond X account have issued a new statement addressing the ongoing 007 casting speculation.
The post reads: âThe search for the next James Bond is underway. While we donât plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, weâre excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.â
So what sparked it?
Update: It’s learned Nina Gold (Andor, The Acolyte, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Game of Thrones) has joined the franchise as the casting director and will work with director Denis Villeneuve and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman in finding that next actor to play 007.
Were There New James Bond Rumors?
There hasnât been a brand-new name suddenly thrown into the mix this week.
Instead, the statement appears to respond to mounting chatter surrounding two actors who have dominated recent Bond rumors: Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner.
Both have repeatedly surfaced in industry talk over the past several weeks.
Amazonâs wording suggests the studio is aware of the speculation â but isnât confirming anything.
Jacob Elordi Rumors Refuse To Go Away
Jacob Elordi has been at the center of the latest Bond frenzy.
Recently, Guardian reporter Marina Hyde said on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast that sheâs heard Elordi is in âpole positionâ for the role. She stressed that nothing has been signed, but claimed that multiple sources close to the situation believe he may currently be the studioâs top choice.
Her reasoning:
⢠Heâs 28 and could play Bond for 10 years
⢠Heâs arguably the top Gen Z male actor
⢠He has a strong built-in audience
⢠He isnât locked into another mega-franchise
Hyde argued his Australian background wouldnât disqualify him, noting Bond has been played by non-English actors before â though she said casting an American would be a harder sell.
Still, the height question keeps coming up. At around 6â5â, critics wonder if Elordi is simply too tall to convincingly play a spy who blends into elite environments.
Former THR editor Matt Belloni also recently poured cold water on the idea that Elordi had already been cast, saying no actor has signed and the script from Stephen Knight is still being written.

What About Callum Turner?
Callum Turner has quietly remained in the conversation.
Some insiders previously suggested he was âway out aheadâ in the race. Belloni even speculated Amazon might prefer someone slightly less famous who can grow into the role.
Turner, at 36, is older than Elordi but still fits within the modern Bond range, depending on how young Amazon wants to skew.
If the studio is planning a long-term, multi-film commitment â possibly including streaming expansions â age and flexibility could factor heavily into the decision.
What The Statement Really Means
Amazonâs message doesnât confirm or deny any specific actor.
It does confirm one thing: casting is actively happening.
âThe search⌠is underway.â
That lines up with previous reporting that no contracts have been signed and no formal announcement is imminent.
If anything, the statement feels like a reminder to fans and media alike that the speculation is just that â speculation.
Until Amazon officially introduces its new 007, Elordi and Turner remain rumors.
But the fact the studio felt the need to say something suggests the Bond chatter is getting louder.
