Star Wars ‘Rangers of the New Republic’ Not In Active Development

It’s learned the Rangers of the New Republic, a live-action spinoff series from The Mandalorian at one time set to star Gina Carano as Cara Dune, is not currently in active development at Disney and Lucasfilm.

The info comes from an article at Variety about how fans (and some actors) finally realized Dave Filono had been named Executive Creative Director at Lucasfilm, only the appointment happened last Summer.

The article notes:

(A third announced spinoff, “Rangers of the New Republic,” is not currently in active development.)

Lucasfilm announced the new series at the Disney Investor Day event back in December, which was described as “…a new original series set within the timeline of The Mandalorian… coming to Disney Plus.”

Rangers of the New Republic

Rangers of the New Republic not coming to Disney Plus any time soon

The series thought to star Gina Carano as Cara Dune and other female Star War characters from The Mandalorian, and if that indeed was the case, we can guess the series has been taken off the schedule because of the firing of Carano who was fired by Disney because of her political views not syncing with the company.

So while Rangers of the New Republic might not be in active development, it does not necessarily mean the series is canceled (but sounds like it), but maybe the show is getting retooled to remove Gina Carano and Cara Dune.

Also active or in development for Star Wars includes The Bad Batch, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor (Rogue One Spinoff), Lando, The Mandalorian Season 3, Ahsoka, The Acolyte, Patty Jenkins’s Rogue Squadron, and the Taika Waititi Star Wars movie, as well as Visions, a Japanese anime Star Wars series, and the Droid Story animated series.
