Marvel TV’s New Warriors Won’t Air On ABC’s Freeform

More woes for Marvel TV as it’s learned their New Warriors TV series originally meant to air on the ABC Freeform teen network is now seeking a new home.

THR reports Marvel TV’s New Warriors half-four comedy series that was set to debut on ABC’s Freeform in April is now being shopped around to other outlets.

According to the report, ABC’s Freeform couldn’t find a slot for it next year, so Marvel TV asked for it back as it wants to premiere the series next year.

The news of ABC not going with New Warriors follows the disappointment of Marvel TV’s Inhumans series on both IMAX and the ABC network, though it is unclear if the two are related.

The article even suggests Marvel TV is no longer able to sell to outside companies, but Marvel TV is said to deny that.

Apparently production on New Warriors has stopped and if it does find a new home, the series will start filming again in January.

It’s noted New Warriors could possibly find a new home on the upcoming new Disney digital streaming network, but it’s said to be a long shot.

I’m not really surprised at the news as Marvel TV (not associated with Marvel Studios or the Marvel movies) has been suffering setbacks as of late with the above mentioned Inhumans, and even the Netflix series Defenders and Iron Fist. In addition, a half-four Marvel TV comedy series starring Squirrel Girl doesn’t sound enticing.

Marvel TV is actually run by people at Marvel Comics who have no real experience in television or other forms of media outside comics, with Jeph Loeb, Dan Buckley, Joe Quesada, and Brian Bendis running things. The group is also known for butting heads with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige who booted them from being involved in the MCU, and they also cancelled the popular Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series (among other things).

Now it seems the rest of the world is catching up with what comic book fans have known for a long time.
