‘Dragon Ball Super’ Smashes Box Office

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is off to a super start at the box office.

It is reported that the new animated flick from Crunchyroll brought in $4 million in Thursday night previews at 3,100 theaters.

As Deadline notes, the number smashes Universal’s Idris Elba lion movie, Beast, which only made $925K at 2,900 theaters.

Dragon Ball Super is also currently higher than Crunchyroll’s Demon Slayer animated movie which was released in March 2020 that did $3.8 million in Thursday night previews, before having a $21.2 million opening at the box office, so things look promising for Super Hero.

More good news comes from it learned that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has a current 90% Rotten Tomatoes Score, with a 93% Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score.

I attended the San Diego Comic-Con last month and Dragon Ball had a huge display outside the convention (check out pics below). There also were tons of Dragon Ball fans there, and two of my friends happen to be into it so big that one created his own fan manga with the hopes to pitch it and my other friend is a Marvel TV actor who is launching his own Anime podcast soon.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is directed by Tetsuro Kodama, created by Akira Toriyama, and features the voice talents of Masako Nozawa, Toshio Furukawa, Aya Hisakawa, Ryo Horikawa, Mayumi Tanaka, Takeshi Kusao, Yuko Minaguchi, Miyu Irino, Hiroshi Kamiya, Mamoru Miyano, Volcano Ota, and Ryota Takeuchi.

These two Androids call themselves “Super Heroes”. They start attacking Piccolo and Son Gohan… What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!
