Sonic The Hedgehog Rotten Tomatoes Score Is In

The Sonic The Hedgehog Rotten Tomatoes score is in as the movie opens tonight with Thursday previews.

With a present 84 early reviews accounted for, the Sonic The Hedgehog Rotten Tomatoes score stands at 65% Fresh, which isn’t bad and is on par with PokĂ©mon Detective Pikachu‘s 69% critics’ score.

Bear in mind it’s still early and there will probably be at least a couple hundred reviews released over the weekend, so the Sonic The Hedgehog Rotten Tomatoes score could change.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu has an Audience Score of 79%, so we see the fans liked the movie more than the critics, which I am expecting for Sonic The Hedgehog as well.

Update: Sonic RT score is at 63% with 93 reviews counted.

Update #2: Audiences love the movie as the Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score is at 94% with 355 reviews counted.

Sonic Rotten Tomatoes score on par with Pokemon

Tracking for Sonic is around $45-50 million for the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend, and the flick may also benefit from some schools being off for winter break all next week.

Again, comparing to Pokemon, that went on to make over $433 million worldwide, but almost $100 million of that came from China, which Sonic won’t benefit from for the time being due to Chinese theaters being closed because of the Coronavirus scare. Pokemon also opened to over $54 million back in May, which I don’t expect Sonic to get anywhere near, but Pokemon is a larger property and did have Ryan Reynolds involved.

You are probably wondering about the second-weekend box office for Birds of Prey; if it follows a 50-60% drop, that would give the flick a second weekend of around $16 million, which may mean Birds of Prey will come in third this weekend, possibly trailing the new Blumhouse PG-13 horror movie Fantasy Island, which could open anywhere from $15 million (or less) to $20 million (or more). Some “fans” are hoping Birds of Prey will see an uptick for its second-weekend release, but I just don’t see that happening (it’s a complete disaster).
