Black Widow Films Next Year & Release Year Made Known

Marvel Studios is president developing a solo Black Widow movie starring Scarlet Johansson.

While the movie has yet to have an official release date, it’s learned Black Widow films next year and will be released in 2020.

Deadline notes the flick films next year with mention Scarlet Johansson was involved in the exhaustive seven-month search for the right director, and that after more than five dozen filmakers were interviewed (all women), the gig went to Cate Shortland; Johansson also serves as producer.

While an official release date for Black Widow has yet to be announced by Marvel Studios, Marvel has untitled release dates set for May 1, 2020 and November 6, 2020.

In addition, since Disney is buying Fox, Fox Studios has untitled Marvel movie release dates for March 13, 2020, June 26, 2010, and October 2, 2020 — any of which can now be used for MCU films. It’s possible Black Widow may nab that March 13 release date.

Earlier this year also saw Scarlet Johansson offer about the Black Widow movie, “I think there is definitely an opportunity to explore the Widow as a woman who has come into her own and is making independent and active choices for herself, probably for once in her life,” the actress told Entertainment Tonight. “You know, she hasn’t always had that possibility.”

It’s further been said Black Widow is a prequel set before the first The Avengers movie (maybe Jeremy Renner will be back as Hawkeye?).
