Another Gotham City villain joins the Birds of Prey movie with Victor Zsasz, played by Chris Messina.
Described as a sadistic serial killer who carves a tally mark onto himself for each of his victims, Victor Zsasz joins Ewan McGregor’s lead villain, Black Mask.
In the comics, Victor Zsasz first appeared in Batman: Shadow of the Bat #1 back in 1992 created by Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle. While primarily a Batman villain, Victor Zsasz has also been involved with the Stephanie Brown Robin and Batgirl at times. Anthony Carrigan recently portrayed the character on the Fox Gotham TV series.
Chris Messina is known for Sharp Objects, The Mindy Project, The Newsroom and Damages.
Warner Bros. also announced additional cast members, but is keeping their roles secret, with Steven Williams (The Chi), Derek Wilson, Dana Lee (Dr. Ken), Francois Chau (The Expanse, The Tick), and Matthew Willig (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs).
Birds of Prey has a February 7, 2020 release directed by Cathy Yan also starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Rosie Perez as Gotham City detective Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain.
The plot is rumored to include that Batman has been missing for years, which gives rise to the villain of the movie, the Gotham crime boss Black Mask, and that the Black Mask kidnaps the young Cassandra Cain to mold her into an assassin, with Harley Quinn, Black Canary and Huntress coming together to rescue Cassandra and put a stop to Black Mask.
