Elizabeth Olsen reveals a new power for Scarlet Witch in the MCU as Wanda Maximoff has the ability to travel between universes, which of course means the Multiverse.
While talking on The Hollywood Reporter’s Award Chatter podcast, Elizabeth Olsen briefly spoke about Scarlet Witch’s powers.
“She has a few fun powers. You know, telekinesis, and she can travel between universes,” Olsen revealed.
Having the ability to travel the Multiverse is a huge power, and back in 2019, Kevin Feige confirmed that Scarlet Witch is the most powerful character in the MCU, backpedaling from Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel.
“Well, I think it is interesting if you look at Endgame, Wanda Maximoff was going to kill Thanos. If he hadn’t desperately – that’s as scared as I’ve ever seen Thanos – and if he hadn’t said ‘decimate my entire team to get her off of me,’ I think she would have done it,” said Feige when asked as of Avengers: Endgame who would be the strongest Marvel hero.
Original plan was to feature Doctor Strange, Multiverse in WandaVision
This is the first time it’s officially been said that Scarlet Witch has the ability to travel the Multiverse but the news fits with information and rumors surrounding WandaVision and Olsen’s inclusion in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness movie.
The original plan for WandaVision was to have Doctor Strange appear, but Kevin Feige said they threw all that out because Doctor Strange is a white male character (seriously), and it was previously rumored that the end of WandaVision was going to feature Scarlet Witch blowing the Multiverse wide open that would have tied directly to the Loki Disney Plus series, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
So since Doctor Strange is a white male, it seems Marvel threw all that out, as Feige has also recently backtracked that the Loki Disney Plus series connects to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (when Feige previously did confirm that). Via EW:
“Part of the fun of the multiverse and playing with time is seeing other versions of characters, and other versions of the titular character in particular,” says Feige, who also declined to confirm if Loki ties into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and/or other upcoming projects.
So instead of having WandaVision organically introduce Scarlet Witch having the ability to travel between universes and tieing everything nicely together through the Multiverse, now Marvel has to introduce Wanda’s new powers rather forcefully and quickly in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness if Scarlet Witch’s role is to make any sense.
