Jessica Lange will not be returning for the fifth season of American Horror Story.
“Yes, I’m done,” Lange confirmed at this past weekend’s PaleyFest. “We’ve had a great run here. I mean, I absolutely love doing these four characters, and in all the madness, I love the writers and Ryan [Murphy] and the insanity of shooting it.”
Lange played a variety of characters in her four seasons on AHS including a Southern belle, a nun, a witch and most recently the head of the carnival in Freak Show.
The official title for the fifth season is: American Horror Story: Hotel.
In addition to the newly announced Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson were also announced as cast members at PayleyFest. Both Bomer (who also appeared in Freak Show) and Jackson would not confirm details about their characters.
“I can’t confirm or deny that there might be a love interest,” Bomer said regarding Lady Gaga, reports Deadline. Jackson also told the crowd he does not know what his character will be doing in Hotel as well.
No plot details were given regarding Hotel, but series creator Ryan Murphy did offer a clue was present in Freak Show as an image of a top hat on a coffee cup was said to not only be an homage to the 1935 film Top Hat, but also a wink that season 5 would be set in a hotel like the film.
