Apple TV+ Renews The Foundation for Season Four

Apple TV+ has confirmed that The Foundation will return for a fourth season.

The announcement comes ahead of the season three finale, which debuts today, September 12, 2025. Production on season four is scheduled to begin in early 2026.

Showrunners and Creative Team

Co-showrunners Ian Goldberg and David Kob said they are eager to continue telling the story of Isaac Asimov’s classic saga.

“There is no series quite like ‘Foundation’ and we feel lucky and honored to be carrying the torch forward as co-showrunners into season four,” they said. “We look forward to continuing the epic, emotional storytelling that defined the first three seasons of the show, and to be working alongside some of the most talented, passionate creative partners in the business.”

They will again lead the production team, working with executive producers Bill Bost, Lee Pace, Michael Satrazemis, Robyn Asimov, and David S. Goyer.

Apple’s Statement

Matt Cherniss, head of programming at Apple TV+, praised the series’ growing global audience.

“It’s been fantastic to watch ‘Foundation’ become such a global phenomenon, with fans tuning in from every corner of the world,” said Cherniss. “With each new season, the excitement around this trailblazing sci-fi epic just keeps building due to the bold storytelling and collective artistry of this extraordinarily talented cast and creative team. We’re excited to keep exploring this universe together in season four.”

Season Three Overview

Season three expanded the reach of The Foundation while the Cleonic Dynasty weakened. The story introduced the threat of the warlord known as The Mule, who uses force and mind control in his attempt to dominate the galaxy.

The cast for season three included returning stars Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, Laura Birn, Cassian Bilton, Terrence Mann, and Rowena King. New cast members included Cherry Jones, Brandon P. Bell, Synnøve Karlsen, Cody Fern, Tómas Lemarquis, Alexander Siddig, Troy Kotsur, and Pilou Asbæk.

The finale, titled The Darkness, sees Gaal and the Second Foundation take the fight to the Mule as the Empire faces its breaking point.

Production and Background

Produced by Paramount Television Studios for Apple, The Foundation has been celebrated as one of the most ambitious science fiction shows on television. The series adapts Asimov’s award-winning novels and has received consistent critical praise since its premiere.
