What did Christopher McDonald say?

Christopher McDonald said Adam Sandler showed him the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.

“I saw Adam about two weeks ago, and he says to me, ‘McDonald, you’re gonna love this,’” he said an interview on Audacy’s 92.3 The Fan. “I said, ‘What?’ He says, ‘How about that,’ and he shows me the first draft of Happy Gilmore 2.”

Since the sequel hasn’t officially been announced, McDonald suggested that his comments should perhaps be “cut” from the interview, “because I don’t want to be a liar,” but McDonald did confirm Sandler “did show me that [script], and I thought, ‘Well, that would be awesome.’ So, it’s in the works.”

He added, “Fans demand it, dammit!”

In development at Netflix

According to Deadline, while reps for Netflix and Sandler wouldn’t comment, Happy Gilmore 2 is in development at Netflix where Sandler has seen huge success and where his Happy Madison production company has had a long deal with the streamer.

Happy Gilmore was released in 1996 and is considered a huge fan-favorite movie.

The flick stars Adam Sandler as the titular character who competes in a golf tournament to save his grandma’s house which pits him against Christopher McDonald’s Shooter McGavin. The film also stars the late Carl Weathers as Chubbs who helps Happy enter the tournament. Julie Bowen also stars as Virginia Venit, Happy’s love interest and the head of public relations for the golf tournament.

Happy Gilmore had a budget of $12 million and brought in over $41 million at the time. It has a 62% Rotten Tomatoes Score from the critics, with an 85% Audience Score from the fans.
