Kelvin Harrison Jr. Rumored For James Gunn’s Green Lantern John Stewart

Following all the Hal Jordan rumors, now Kelvin Harrison Jr. is rumored to be playing Green Lantern John Stewart for James Gunn’s DCU Lanterns series.

The actor is 30 years old and is known for playing Martin Luther King in the Genius TV series, for Chevalier, played B.B. King in the Elvis movie, Luce, Monster and more.

According to his IMDb, his schedule is wide open as he recently finished voicing Taka in Disney’s upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King.

Lanterns is said to feature a younger John Stewart and an older Hal Jordan, so Kelvin Harrison Jr. would fit as Stewart with whoever Gunn casts as Jordan. He also has a military connection as his sister is in the Air Force. In the comics, Hal Jordan was in the Air Force and John Stewart was in the Marines. The rumor comes via Daniel RPK.

Rumors have offered all kinds of names for Hal Jordan including Josh Brolin, Matthew McConaughey, Ewan McGregor and Chris Pine, but it’s said Brolin passed and that A-list actors won’t be taking the gig. Timothy Olyphant is another name that could work. As I have been tweeted, I have doubt Gunn will be able to go with an A-list actor as someone like Chris Pine would be too expensive for Warner Bros. Discovery. Doubt me? Just look what they did with House of the Dragon Season 2. They totally butchered the second season because they have no money for the budget.

Anyway, I think Gunn does a good enough job when it comes to actors that whoever he casts in the Green Lanterns roles will work.

I still say go with Armie Hammer.

Gunn has described Lanterns as a “terrestrial-based TV show” akin to True Detective, where two Green Lanterns act as space cops watching over Earth. “This is really a terrestrial-based TV show which is almost like True Detective with a couple of Green Lanterns who are space cops watching over precinct Earth,” Gunn explained. “In it, they discover a terrifying mystery that ties into our larger story of the DCU.”
